This page says what Tenantry stores, why, for how long, and how to remove it. We collect as little as the game needs.
In short: apart from your email address, which we hold only if you make an account, we store only what the game itself needs, which is a record of your play. We do not ask for your name, birthday, phone number or location. We never sell your information, and we do not use it to target ads.
Playing without an account
You can play without signing in. Your progress, results and settings are kept on your own device. The game asks our server for the day's puzzles and is given a random code of its own for this, which is not your name or your email.
If you make an account
An account is identified by your email address only. There are no passwords. We store:
- your email address;
- your results: which puzzles you solved, how long they took, and how many flubs and hints you used;
- boards you have started, so you can carry on from another device;
- your apartment in the game: the items you have bought with coins earned by playing, and where you have put them;
- the devices you are signed in on: a label for each, and when it was last used;
- your choices: whether you want email about new puzzles and features (this is off unless you tick it, and we record when you ticked it), and your language and time zone;
- a record that each sign-in code email was sent.
A sign-in code is stored only as a scrambled value, and it works for ten minutes. Along with it we keep the email address it was for and a scrambled form of the network address that asked for it, for one day, so that we can limit how often codes can be requested. The sign-in token kept on your device is stored on our side only as a scrambled value too.
Checking that a person is signing in
When you ask for a sign-in code, your browser may run a check from Cloudflare, Inc. to tell people from automated programs. It sees details about your browser, so that it can do this. It is used only for that check.
Counting how the game is used
We count what happens in the game, such as which puzzles are opened and solved, how long they take, and which buttons are used. Each device is given a random code by the game, and we store only a scrambled version of it, which we cannot turn back into the original. We do not record your email address, your name or your network address in these counts, and we do not use cookies for them. They tell us whether the puzzles are too hard or too easy and whether people come back. The counts are kept for 90 days. We do not sell them or share them with anyone.
Who handles it
The game and its data are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which, like any host, can see the network address of each visit. Sign-in emails are sent by Resend, which receives your email address so that the message can be delivered, and nothing else about you.
How long we keep it
- Sign-in codes, with the email address and scrambled network address kept alongside them: one day.
- Records of sign-in emails sent: 90 days.
- A signed-in device: removed after 180 days without use, or 30 days after you sign out of it.
- A board you started and left: removed after 30 days without being played, and as soon as you solve the puzzle.
- Counts of how the game is used: 90 days.
- A free account that has not solved a puzzle within a day of being made is deleted.
- A free account that has not been used for a year is deleted, with everything it holds.
- Otherwise your results stay with your account until you delete it.
Your choices
In the game, under Stats and account, you can sign out of this device, sign out of every device, and delete your account. Deleting your account removes your email address, your results, your boards, your apartment and your choices in one step. The counts described above are not linked to your account, so there is nothing in them to delete, and they are kept for a limited time.
Every marketing email we send, if you have asked for them, has a link to unsubscribe in one click.
Children
Tenantry is for a general audience and is not directed at children.
