Tenantry

How to play Tenantry

Every day Tenantry gives you a small apartment building, a set of tenants and a list of clues. Put every tenant in exactly one apartment so that every clue is true. Each puzzle has exactly one answer, and you can always reach it by logic. You never need to guess.

The building

Floors are numbered from the ground up (1, 2, 3, 4) and units run left to right (A, B, C), so an apartment has a name like 2B. Clues use three ideas:

The tenants

Every tenant has a name, an age, a job, a pet and working hours (an early bird or a night owl). Everything a clue can talk about is on the card, so nothing is hidden. Every name in a puzzle starts with a different letter.

The clues

Clues come one page at a time. Tap a clue to see what it points at on the board: it marks the apartments or floor it names and outlines the tenants it mentions, but it never shows you where anyone lives. Tap it again to strike it through once you have used it.

Placing tenants

Drag a tenant into an apartment, or tap a tenant and then a window. To keep track of what might be possible, press and hold a window to pencil in the tenants who could live there. A tenant you place clears their pencil marks everywhere.

Handing over the keys

When every apartment is filled, press Hand over the keys. If the building is right, the windows light up one by one as the evening turns to night. If it is not, that counts as a flub, and you are not told which apartments are wrong. Each puzzle allows a few hints (the button shows how many are left): a hint first points out an apartment that breaks a clue, and otherwise shows the next thing a careful solver would work out. Hints are counted.

Every day

There are two puzzles each day, an Easy and a Hard. The buildings start small on Monday and grow through the week. New puzzles arrive at midnight US Eastern time, the same moment for everybody. A day counts toward your streak when you solve at least one of the two on the day it comes out. Sign in with your email (there is no password) to keep your streak and results on every device.

Sharing

When you finish, you can share your result as a small drawing of the building in emoji, with your time and how many flubs and hints you used. It never gives away any part of the answer.

Playing your way

The whole game can be played with a keyboard, and it works with screen readers. You can choose a color scheme, a larger text size, and reduced motion in the settings. If you are new, a short guided puzzle is under Stats and account, as "How to play".
